National holidays

14 March is Constitution Day and 8 September is the feast of Our Lady of Meritxell, Andorra’s national day. In 2027, 14 March falls on a Sunday and 8 September on a Wednesday. On these days some shops and services close or open only if the government authorises it that year, so check before planning a shopping trip.

Andorra also keeps other religious holidays during the year. The official working calendar is published by the Government of Andorra.

Planner

What time will you reach your hotel?

Tell us when you land and where you are going. We tell you when you will leave the airport and the window in which you arrive, allowing for the Cadí route, the border and the day’s traffic.

Estimated arrival

16:30 – 17:15

  • Pick-up around 13:45: about 45 min to get out of the airport (we wait 60 min free of charge).
  • Driving: 169 to 194 min (200 km).
  • Border and traffic margin: 0–15 min.

An estimate based on driving times without traffic plus a careful margin. Not official data: no public source publishes waiting times at the Andorran border.

Summer: fires and festes majors

Around Sant Joan (24 June) several parishes celebrate the summer solstice fire festivals, the falles, recognised by UNESCO in 2015 together with those of other Pyrenean villages. In July and August each parish holds its festa major: in 2026 Escaldes-Engordany celebrated from 18 to 26 July and Andorra la Vella from 30 July to 3 August. The dates for each year are published in the Visit Andorra events calendar.

During the festivals there are concerts, street events and more people in the centre: book your transfer early and leave margin for traffic.

The busiest days at the border

The Spanish bank holiday weekends (for example the December long weekend around the 6th and 8th, Easter and the August holidays), Christmas and New Year, and the Sunday afternoons of the whole year. On those days, the Spanish customs post at La Farga de Moles can queue for a long time on the way back to Spain. If you have a flight or a train, leave earlier.

Seasons

Winter is ski season, usually from early December to April: see our sister site’s ski season guide. June to September is hiking season (Andorra in summer). Spring and autumn are quieter, good for shopping and Caldea. From 1 November to 15 May winter equipment is compulsory on every road in Andorra.
