Why this route needs more margin

From Pas de la Casa to El Prat it is about 228 km, roughly three and a half hours without traffic, the longest drive in the country. The first part crosses the Envalira pass or its tunnel, more than two thousand metres up, before dropping towards Soldeu, Canillo and Encamp. In fine weather it is a spectacular road; in a snowstorm it is the most exposed stretch of the whole trip, and the Andorran authorities can restrict traffic or require winter equipment.

That is why we suggest a pick-up about six and a half hours before a European flight, and seven and a half before a long-haul one. If the forecast is bad for your departure day, we may suggest an earlier time; we will tell you in advance, not at the door.

Planner

What time should we pick you up?

Tell us where you leave from, where you are going and when your flight or train departs. We suggest a pick-up time based on the worst case: a Sunday in season, a queue at the border and check-in.

Recommended pick-up

11:45

  • Expected arrival between 15:10 and 16:00.
  • Driving: 204 to 235 min (228 km).
  • Border (leaving Andorra) and traffic margin: 5–20 min.
  • Airport margin: 120 min before the flight.

Pick-up in Pas de la Casa or Grau Roig

Pas de la Casa is a compact town built on a slope, with one-way streets and plenty of traffic when the lifts open and close. Write the exact address of your hotel or apartment and your driver will wait at the entrance; if access is awkward, they will call you and agree the nearest point. If you are staying at Grau Roig, on the other side of the slopes, write it in the booking form and the driver will collect you there.

You get 15 minutes of free waiting at the address. If you need more time to hand back keys or collect rental gear, choose a later pick-up rather than counting on the wait.

Envalira, the border and the road to Barcelona

After the pass, the road runs down the CG-2 to Andorra la Vella and on to Sant Julià de Lòria and the border at La Farga de Moles, where the Spanish customs post is. Then La Seu d’Urgell and, depending on traffic and weather, the C-16 through the Cadí tunnel or the C-14 via Organyà, to the motorway and the airport. Your driver chooses the route on the day.

From the border onwards the drive is the same as from any other part of Andorra, so once you are past La Seu d’Urgell the remaining time is predictable: roughly two and a half hours to El Prat in normal traffic, a little more on Friday and Sunday evenings near Barcelona.

Your skis, your cases and your documents

Enter the number of suitcases and ski or snowboard bags in the search box: you will only see vehicles where everything fits, with ski equipment charged as special luggage at its published price. Child seats are available on request, for a small supplement.

Every passenger needs an ID card or passport for customs, including children. If you are bringing back shopping, check the duty-free allowances before you buy; travellers on a Schengen visa re-enter the Schengen area at this border. The travel guide explains everything step by step.

Groups leaving together

Each vehicle carries up to 8 passengers. For a larger group we book several vehicles that leave Pas de la Casa at the same time and travel together to the terminal, with one booking and one invoice.

The border

Entering Andorra and coming back: what to know

Andorra is not in the European Union: there is a customs post on the CG-1 (Riu Runer, 848 m), between La Seu d’Urgell and Sant Julià de Lòria. Going in is usually quick; coming back, there are queues on Sunday afternoons and at the end of long weekends.

Coming back to Spain (allowances per person)

Under-17s have no tobacco or alcohol allowance. Anything above the allowance must be declared at customs.

Coming back to Spain (allowances per person)
Tobacco300 cigarettes, or 150 cigarillos, or 75 cigars, or 400 g of rolling tobacco
Alcohol1.5 l over 22%, or 3 l under 22%, or 5 l of wine
Coffee and tea1 kg of coffee; 200 g of tea
Perfume75 g of perfume and 375 ml of eau de toilette

Going in

  • A valid ID card or passport for every passenger, children included.
  • If you need a Schengen visa, it must be double or multiple entry: you re-enter the EU on the way back.
  • Minors travelling without their parents: their own document and a signed authorisation.
  • From 1 November to 15 May, winter equipment is compulsory on every road in Andorra; with snow, colour phases set speed limits.

Frequently asked questions

What if Envalira is closed on my departure day?

Closures are rare and usually last a few hours during the heaviest snowfalls. If the forecast is bad, we suggest an earlier pick-up in advance; on the day, your driver follows the authorities’ instructions and keeps you informed.

Yes. Choose Pas de la Casa in the search box and write your Grau Roig address in the booking form.

Can we stop on the way to the airport?
