Leaving Grandvalira on departure day

In Soldeu and El Tarter many apartments and hotels change guests on Saturdays, and check-out is usually in the morning. That leaves a gap between giving back the keys and your flight. Some people use it for a last half-day on the slopes and leave the cases at reception; others prefer to set off early and spend the spare time in Barcelona. Either works: tell us the pick-up time and the address, and if you want to be collected at a different point from where you slept, write both.

Saturday is also the busiest day on the CG-2, with cars arriving and leaving at the same time. Driving down to Andorra la Vella and the border can take longer than in the week, so we build that into the suggested pick-up time.

Planner

What time should we pick you up?

Tell us where you leave from, where you are going and when your flight or train departs. We suggest a pick-up time based on the worst case: a Sunday in season, a queue at the border and check-in.

Recommended pick-up

11:55

  • Expected arrival between 15:10 and 16:00.
  • Driving: 194 to 223 min (219 km).
  • Border (leaving Andorra) and traffic margin: 5–20 min.
  • Airport margin: 120 min before the flight.

An estimate based on driving times without traffic plus a careful margin. Not official data: no public source publishes waiting times at the Andorran border.

The drive: down the CG-2 and out through La Farga de Moles

From Soldeu to El Prat it is about 219 km, a little over three hours without traffic. The first stretch descends the Valira d’Orient valley through El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp to the capital, about 25 km of winding valley road. After Sant Julià de Lòria comes the border at La Farga de Moles and, on the Spanish side, La Seu d’Urgell. From there your driver takes the C-16 and the Cadí tunnel or the C-14 via Organyà, depending on the day, towards Barcelona and the airport.

For a European flight, we suggest a pick-up about six hours before departure; for long-haul, seven. On Sunday afternoons and at the end of bank holidays, customs queues can add a good while, so add more margin on those days.

Skis, boots and cases in the same vehicle

Going home, the ski bags often come back heavier, with wet boots and the souvenirs bought in the capital. Enter in the search box how many suitcases and how many ski or snowboard bags you have, and only categories with room for everything will appear. Ski equipment is charged as special luggage at its published price, shown before you pay.

If you rented your skis in Soldeu, return them the day before or first thing in the morning; you then travel with your suitcases only. Families can ask for child seats, for a small supplement; your driver brings them fitted.

Customs, documents and shopping

On the way out of Andorra the Spanish customs post may check what you carry, because there are allowances for tobacco, alcohol and other goods. Keep receipts and documents within reach; every passenger needs an ID card or passport, including children. Travellers with a Schengen visa re-enter the Schengen area here, so the visa must allow multiple entries. Our travel guide has the details and the official sources to check before you shop.

Ski groups and families

Ski clubs, groups of friends or several families travelling together travel in vehicles of up to 8 passengers, spread over several vehicles that leave Soldeu at the same time and arrive together at the terminal. Tell us the group size and the total of bags and we arrange the right mix.

The border

Entering Andorra and coming back: what to know

Andorra is not in the European Union: there is a customs post on the CG-1 (Riu Runer, 848 m), between La Seu d’Urgell and Sant Julià de Lòria. Going in is usually quick; coming back, there are queues on Sunday afternoons and at the end of long weekends.

Coming back to Spain (allowances per person)

Under-17s have no tobacco or alcohol allowance. Anything above the allowance must be declared at customs.

Coming back to Spain (allowances per person)
Tobacco300 cigarettes, or 150 cigarillos, or 75 cigars, or 400 g of rolling tobacco
Alcohol1.5 l over 22%, or 3 l under 22%, or 5 l of wine
Coffee and tea1 kg of coffee; 200 g of tea
Perfume75 g of perfume and 375 ml of eau de toilette
Other goodsUp to €900 (manufactured) and €300 (agricultural)

Going in

  • A valid ID card or passport for every passenger, children included.
  • If you need a Schengen visa, it must be double or multiple entry: you re-enter the EU on the way back.
  • Minors travelling without their parents: their own document and a signed authorisation.
  • From 1 November to 15 May, winter equipment is compulsory on every road in Andorra; with snow, colour phases set speed limits.

Yes. Choose Soldeu – El Tarter in the search box and write the exact address of your hotel or apartment, in El Tarter, Canillo or anywhere along the valley.

Can we ski in the morning and fly the same evening?

If your flight leaves late enough, yes. Count about six hours between pick-up and a European departure. Leave your cases at reception and tell us where to collect you.
