There and back in a day
Andorra day trip from Barcelona
Going to Andorra and back to Barcelona on the same day is possible, but it is a long day: almost six hours on the road in total. Well organised, it leaves five or six hours in Andorra for shopping, Caldea or a mountain stroll.

A realistic schedule
From central Barcelona to Andorra la Vella it is about 192 km, around two and three-quarter hours without traffic. Leave at 8:00 and you arrive around 11:00. Start back at 17:00 or 18:00 and you reach Barcelona between 20:00 and 21:30, depending on the customs queue and traffic into the city.
On Sunday afternoons and at the end of long weekends the border queue can be long; if you can, choose a weekday or head back earlier. Check the calendar before picking a date.
Planner
What time will you reach your hotel?
Tell us when you land and where you are going. We tell you when you will leave the airport and the window in which you arrive, allowing for the Cadí route, the border and the day’s traffic.
Estimated arrival
15:40 – 16:25
- Driving: 163 to 187 min (192 km).
- Border and traffic margin: 0–15 min.
An estimate based on driving times without traffic plus a careful margin. Not official data: no public source publishes waiting times at the Andorran border.
What you can fit in
The usual plan is a morning of shopping on Avinguda Meritxell and Avinguda Carlemany, lunch in Andorra la Vella or Escaldes and an afternoon at Caldea. In summer, instead of Caldea, some visitors go up to a nearby viewpoint or lake.
If you want to ski or do a long mountain walk, one day does not leave much time with six hours of driving: it is better to stay at least one night. See where to stay.
How to book it
It is two transfers: Barcelona to Andorra and Andorra back to Barcelona. Book the outbound leg in the booking box on this page and the return on Andorra to Barcelona city, with the address where you want to be collected. Each leg has its own fixed price per vehicle, tolls included, which depends on the day and time: you see it before paying.
The price is per vehicle, not per person, so a group or family shares it. Each vehicle carries up to 8 passengers. Leave room for your shopping by adding a suitcase on the return leg.
The way back and customs
Coming back into Spain you pass the La Farga de Moles customs post, which applies allowances to what you buy. Check them in customs and allowances before you go shopping.
The border
Entering Andorra and coming back: what to know
Andorra is not in the European Union: there is a customs post on the CG-1 (Riu Runer, 848 m), between La Seu d’Urgell and Sant Julià de Lòria. Going in is usually quick; coming back, there are queues on Sunday afternoons and at the end of long weekends.
Going in
- A valid ID card or passport for every passenger, children included.
- If you need a Schengen visa, it must be double or multiple entry: you re-enter the EU on the way back.
- Minors travelling without their parents: their own document and a signed authorisation.
- From 1 November to 15 May, winter equipment is compulsory on every road in Andorra; with snow, colour phases set speed limits.

Under-17s have no tobacco or alcohol allowance. Anything above the allowance must be declared at customs.
