The summer classics

Coma Pedrosa, at 2,942 m, is the highest peak in Andorra; the usual ascent starts near Arinsal, in the parish of La Massana. The Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape since 2004, is reached on foot from Escaldes-Engordany. In Ordino, the Sorteny valley nature park and the Tristaina lakes, in the Arcalís area, are popular day walks.

Distances and difficulty vary a lot between routes and sources. Before you go, check the official route sheets on Visit Andorra and the weather forecast: summer storms in the Pyrenees often arrive in the afternoon.

An estimate based on driving times without traffic plus a careful margin. Not official data: no public source publishes waiting times at the Andorran border.

Where to stay depending on your routes

La Massana and Arinsal are a good base for Coma Pedrosa and the north-west; Ordino for Sorteny and Tristaina; Escaldes and Andorra la Vella for the Madriu valley and for evenings with more restaurants. In the search box you can choose each of these villages as your destination.

In summer the ski areas also open some lifts and mountain bike trails. Dates change every year: check each resort’s website.

Boots, poles and bikes

Enter all your luggage when booking. Rucksacks and walking poles travel with the suitcases. If you bring a bicycle, message us before booking so we can assign a vehicle where it fits.

Summer driving and festivals

In July and August the parishes celebrate their festes majors and there is more traffic on the roads into Andorra, especially at weekends. See the calendar and leave margin if you have a flight on the way back from Andorra to Barcelona Airport.
