Andorra customs: allowances, documents and queues

Andorra is not part of the European Union or its customs union. Going in is usually quick; coming back into Spain, Spanish customs checks what you carry and applies limits to your shopping. Here is what to know before your trip.

Where the border is

From Barcelona you enter Andorra at the CG-1 border by the Runer river, between La Seu d’Urgell and Sant Julià de Lòria. The Spanish side is the La Farga de Moles customs post. It is the border we cross on every transfer: we do not go to France, so the Pas de la Casa border is not part of our routes.

Entering Andorra you show your documents if asked. Leaving for Spain, the Guardia Civil and customs may check the vehicle and luggage, and this is where the queues form.

Planner

What time should we pick you up?

Tell us where you leave from, where you are going and when your flight or train departs. We suggest a pick-up time based on the worst case: a Sunday in season, a queue at the border and check-in.

Recommended pick-up

12:25

  • Expected arrival between 15:15 and 16:00.
  • Driving: 169 to 194 min (200 km).
  • Border (leaving Andorra) and traffic margin: 5–20 min.
  • Airport margin: 120 min before the flight.

What you can bring: the allowances

Allowances are per person and per trip, and under-17s have no tobacco or alcohol allowance. The border section on this page has the full table for tobacco, alcohol, coffee, perfume and other goods, with a link to the official 2026 leaflet. Anything above the allowance must be declared at customs.

If you carry 10,000 euros or more in cash, EU rules require you to declare it when entering or leaving the EU. If in doubt about a specific product, ask customs before you buy.

Documents

Every traveller needs a valid document: ID card or passport for EU citizens and a passport for everyone else, with the relevant visa. If you need a Schengen visa, make sure it is double or multiple entry, because you re-enter the EU on the way back. Minors travelling without their parents carry their own document and a signed authorisation.

When queues build up and how to plan your return

Queues leaving Andorra build up on Sunday afternoons, at the end of long weekends and on the busiest shopping days. If you are going back for a flight or train, leave with a margin: the planner on our return pages, such as Andorra to Barcelona Airport or Andorra to Lleida station, helps you set the pick-up time.

On a private transfer, the driver knows the crossing and carries the vehicle documents; you only need the travellers’ documents and your shopping to hand. If you expect to shop more than planned, leave room by adding an extra suitcase when booking.
