Option 1: high-speed train to Lleida and transfer

Lleida-Pirineus is on the Madrid–Barcelona high-speed line, and direct trains from Madrid take about two and a half hours. From Lleida it is about 150 km to Andorra la Vella, around two and a half hours by road. It is the shortest way in kilometres: see Lleida to Andorra.

Choose Lleida as the pick-up point in the booking box on this page and add your train number when booking. If the booking box shows no price for your date, it lets you send us the trip on WhatsApp and we reply with a fixed price.

Planner

What time will you reach your hotel?

Tell us when you land and where you are going. We tell you when you will leave the airport and the window in which you arrive, allowing for the Cadí route, the border and the day’s traffic.

Estimated arrival

15:25 – 16:05

  • Driving: 147 to 169 min (150 km).
  • Border and traffic margin: 0–15 min.

An estimate based on driving times without traffic plus a careful margin. Not official data: no public source publishes waiting times at the Andorran border.

Option 2: high-speed train to Barcelona Sants and transfer

There are more trains from Madrid to Barcelona than to Lleida, so the timetable sometimes fits better. From Barcelona Sants to Andorra la Vella it is about 192 km, around two and three-quarter hours without traffic. The total journey is a little longer than via Lleida, but with more departure times.

Option 3: fly to El Prat and transfer

The Madrid–Barcelona air shuttle has many flights a day. From Barcelona Airport it is about 200 km to Andorra la Vella; we track your flight and you get 60 minutes of free waiting from the actual landing time. Andorra–La Seu d’Urgell airport has very few flights, so it is rarely an option from Madrid.

By car or bus

By road it is about 600 km via Zaragoza and Lleida, more than six hours. There are also scheduled buses. If you would rather not drive the mountain section, the train-plus-transfer combination drops you at your hotel door. For the return, see Andorra to Lleida station.

The border

Entering Andorra and coming back: what to know

Andorra is not in the European Union: there is a customs post on the CG-1 (Riu Runer, 848 m), between La Seu d’Urgell and Sant Julià de Lòria. Going in is usually quick; coming back, there are queues on Sunday afternoons and at the end of long weekends.

Going in

  • A valid ID card or passport for every passenger, children included.
  • If you need a Schengen visa, it must be double or multiple entry: you re-enter the EU on the way back.
  • Minors travelling without their parents: their own document and a signed authorisation.
  • From 1 November to 15 May, winter equipment is compulsory on every road in Andorra; with snow, colour phases set speed limits.
